3 + 1 = Australia

Four tutored wine tastings are coming up in September. Each comes highly recommended. At only €20 for an evening of high-end wines and a few bites of grub, at the very least each will be a good-value evening out. But they also could help open up a new world of flavours and styles for the curious wine fan.

♦ The headliner has to be the visit of world-famous winemaker Tim Adams who is presenting an evening of wine and stories  from the Clare Valley in three venues from 6.45pm to 8.30pm as follows —

Cork Tuesday September 7 at Castle Trattoria, Blackrock Castle.
Ennis on Wednesday 8 September at the Glór centre.
Galway on Thursday September 9 at Café 8 in Galway City Museum.

Tickets for each event are €20 per person. To book, contact Wine Australia (Ireland) on 065 707 7264 or by email at ireland@wineaustralia.com.

It’s the latest in a series of winemaker events put together by trade representative body Wine Australia. The smartest thing about the series is that the guest winemaker is there to present the region, and not just his or her own wines. And Clare certainly has lots to offer. For such a tiny community of a few thousand souls, the valley produces a heap of highly-regarded  names including Pikes, Wakefield, Leasingham, O’Leary Walker, Grosset and of course Tim Adams‘ own wines.

♦ Later in September, the focus will be on the Yarra Valley in a tutored tasting presented by Phil Sexton, winemaker and owner of the Giant Steps Winery. It takes place from 6.45 to 8.30pm at Fallon & Byrne, Exchequer St, Dublin 2, on Wednesday September 15. Book tickets (20) on 065 707 7264 or by email at ireland@wineaustralia.com.

♦ Oh and to add a further two events to that four…. On September 7, On the Grapevine in Dalkey is hosting a dinner in Jaipur, Dalkey, accompanied by the wines of Yalumba with special guest Jane Ferrari. Drop in to the shop for further details.  They can also tell you about their Languedoc dinner in Beaufield Mews the following week.

♦ And most importantly of all, don’t forget the massive Wines from Spain – The New Way on September 9, again in Dublin. Full details here.
